Home's Safe Harbor
I was drawn to paint this nighttime lighthouse scene in part because I couldn’t quite solve the mystery of whether or not this boat made it home to shore. Did the storm make for an impossible homecoming? Were they dashed on the rocks or make it safely to shore? How did this story end? The strong symbolism of lighthouses and the shining light piercing our darkness hints at a strong thread of hope in this story’s ending.
This is an early work in which I was delving into particular oil painting techniques; it was formerly part of a private collection, and has recently become available following the liquidation of the estate. It is offered with the option of the original frame (measures 19.5”x23.5”), as depicted.
